Rwamagana to Kayonza Junction
Continue on RN3 through Kayonza district — the gateway to Eastern Province and Akagera. Flat terrain, fast driving.
Kayonza to Akagera Main Gate
Turn north from Kayonza. The road to the main park gate (Southern Entrance) is well-marked. Total ~100km from Kigali.

Park Entry Fees
Akagera entry fees are set by RDB (Rwanda Development Board). Non-resident adults pay $40/day per person. A vehicle entry fee also applies. Check current rates at rdb.rw.
Best Game Drive Times
Morning (06:00–10:00 AM) and late afternoon (15:00–18:00) are best for wildlife sightings. We recommend an overnight stay at one of Akagera's lodges to catch both sessions.
Self-Drive in the Park
Self-drive is allowed in Akagera — it is a fenced, well-mapped park with GPS tracks available. We recommend downloading the Akagera offline map before entering. A full-time 4x4 is required.
Overnight Options
